Blackmouth and trunks in the Wetlands

Wetlands, Menethil and the coast / level 20 to 30 / fish, rum and trunks / alone

It rains in the Wetlands. It rained when I arrived, it rained all week, and the man who sold me lures in Menethil said it had rained since his grandfather's time. I sat on a rock for four days with a pole and a wet blanket. On the second day a box came up on the line. I opened it on the rock. There was leather inside and a bolt of silk, and I sold both in Ironforge the week after and paid for the blanket.

Why it pays

Two kinds of water pay here. A blackmouth or firefin school gives its fish on most casts, and in our loot tables one cast in twenty brings up a Watertight Trunk, a Rumsey Rum Dark or a Stranglekelp instead. Floating wreckage pays the other way round: a trunk on three casts in five, the rum or the kelp on one in five each. So I fish every piece of wreckage I see before I touch a school. The fish sells for price unknown because the alchemists need it for Blackmouth Oil. The rum sells for price unknown. A vendor pays 2c for an unopened trunk, so open it. Our data doesn't list what's inside. The traveller found leather and bolts of silk, and five trunks with the kelp and the fish came to about two gold on his auction house.

What you need

A pole and lures from Stuart Fleming in Menethil Harbor, who also sells Recipe: Mithril Head Trout and Recipe: Rainbow Fin Albacore. Our data doesn't say which skill the Wetlands want. The traveller who found the trunks came with a skill of about a hundred and left at 140. Bring empty bags, because the trunks don't stack.

Where

Our data has no spawns for the Wetlands schools, and the traveller doesn't say where along the water he found them. Menethil Harbor is where you start, with the flight point, the fisherman and Innkeeper Helbrek's inn. The coast north of the harbour belongs to the Bluegill murlocs, level 20 to 28.

How

  1. Fly to Menethil Harbor and buy lures from Stuart Fleming.
  2. Walk the water's edge and watch the surface. Wreckage first, schools second.
  3. Open every trunk as soon as it comes up, or the bags fill.
  4. When the water goes quiet, move on. Don't wait at an empty spot.
  5. Sell the fish, the rum and the trunks' contents on the auction house, and the kelp too if it fetches more than 1s 00c.

TODAY ON THE MARKET

Oily Blackmouth: price unknown

Firefin Snapper: price unknown

Rumsey Rum Dark: price unknown

Stranglekelp: price unknown

Blackmouth Oil: price unknown

What can go wrong

The schools run out. The traveller fished the Wetlands until the water was empty and then went ten minutes without seeing a single school. Murlocs come out of the sea along the coast, and the Raiders are level 28. The trunk is a lottery, and our data can't tell you the odds.

BASTIAN'S VERDICT Come for the wreckage and the rum, and fish the schools while you wait for more wreckage.

The rumours on this page

[Checked] Floating wreckage primarily drops crates, sometimes an herb, and sometimes Rumsey Rum.

The loot tables agree, though our data calls them trunks: the wreckage that yields Watertight Trunks gives the trunk on three casts in five, Rumsey Rum Dark and Stranglekelp on one in five each.

[Heard, not checked] Five watertight trunks from the Wetlands, opened, together with stranglekelp and oily blackmouth, gave about two gold worth of wares for the auction house.

[Heard, not checked] In the Wetlands it did not take long to get the first watertight trunk.

[Heard, not checked] In the Wetlands there were plenty of pools with oily blackmouth and firefin snapper, but after a while the pools dried up and no school was seen for about 10 minutes.
